Daily Social Media Tasks
- Schedule updates that promote your business. To make social media work for you as a business tool, you ned to make sure you’re regularly sharing links to your blog posts and promoting your products and services. Social media is a fantastic way to send traffic to your website and to make sales, so don’t be shy about putting yourself out there! But don’t be overly promotional about your own stuff because it can turn off your followers. You need to find a balance between valuable content and promotional content. To find that balance, don’t forget to do the following:
- Share content from other people. Your daily updates should be a mix of your own content and content from other people. Think about what your audience would want to see and focus on providing value to them. Your social media profiles should portray you as an authority figure in your niche. Become the go-to person for whatever it is that you do by always sharing great information your audience needs, even if it’s not from your own website.
- Respond to any replies or mentions of your brand. Whenever someone takes the time to send a reply to you, you should reply back! Let your audience know that you’re listening to them by sending something in return. Keep an eye out for any mentions of your brand, such as someone sharing your blog post. Send a quick thank you to let you know it’s appreciated. You should also get into the habit of searching your website name on Twitter because sometimes you’ll find that people are sharing your content without directly replying to you.
- Engage, engage, engage. Check in with your timeline throughout the day and see what other people are posting. Find opportunities to engage with them by starting up a conversation. Interact with the content other people are posting and post questions of your own. You should also make an effort to reach out to new people by searching hashtags your target market is using. It’s a great way to connect with new people and find potential clients and customers.
Weekly Social Media Tasks
- Follow new people you are genuinely interested in. To build new relationships, you need to find new people to follow, but don’t just follow anyone with the hopes they’ll follow you back. Follow those whose content you will truly benefit from having show up in your timeline. You should be selective about the updates you see!
- Join a Twitter chat/participate in a group, etc. Twitter chats, Facebook groups, and group boards on Pinterest are awesome for getting out there in front of new people. Make sure you’re participating in these types of groups at least once a week. Find a Twitter chat or Facebook group where your audience is hanging out or join one where you know you’re going to make new friends. Use Pinterest group boards to pin a variety of valuable content that will make people want to check out your profile!
- Measure your performance for the week. In order to make sure your social media strategy is working for you, you have to measure the performance of your posts. Use the analytics from your scheduling tool (such as Buffer) or from the platform itself to see how much engagement each post got. How many clicks did each link get? How many shares, likes, retweets, etc.? Which post got the most replies? You need to know how well each update performed to know what resonates with your audience. Find out what’s working and do more of that! Alternatively, you could also do this daily if you’d like.
Monthly Social Media Tasks
- Clean up your following list. Make time at the end of each month to get rid of any accounts you’re following that you’re no longer interested in. Any accounts that aren’t posting updates you want to read or have gone inactive can be cut. You should keep your following lists nice and tidy with active users whose updates you love.
- Track your growth. Get into the habit of tracking your growth each month. Keep a spreadsheet with how many followers you have at the end of the month so you can see how well you’re performing. Of course, you shouldn’t get obsessed with numbers, but you do want to see that you’re progressing. It’s also a good idea to set a goal of how many followers you’d like to achieve within a month. When you have a goal to work toward, you’re more likely to achieve it!
- Brainstorm your social media plan for the next month. It’s always a good idea to have a plan. List any specific posts or products/services that you want to promote. For example, if you’re launching a product one month, you’ll want to share multiple updates to help promote it. Create a plan where you’ll share blog posts, graphics, etc. to help you get more sales. Or maybe you want to use social media to grow your email list one month? Link to blog posts with content upgrades and regularly promote your opt-in freebie. Having a plan will help you stay organized! (Related: )
